Collinsville High School features two distinct media outlets: the “Collinsville Panther Network” (CPN) and the “Collinsville Panther Press.” While their names are similar, there are several key differences that define them.
The Collinsville Panther Network was established in response to a need for video coverage of significant school events, initiated by Mr. Bradley Crawford. Presently, it operates under the guidance of Business Teacher Mrs. Emmily Stone. Since its founding, CPN has experienced remarkable growth and now consists of 11 members qualified in videography, editing, stage management, sound, and more. What initially started with a group of students using a simple video camera has evolved into a fully equipped news crew studio featuring state-of-the-art technology, including a 4K high-definition video camera, various microphones, a drone, and advanced editing software on gaming computers. Last year, CPN proudly relocated to a new space in the loft above the auditorium. The network conducts interviews with athletes, coaches, faculty, and staff, all of which are shared on their Youtube Channel . In addition, a TikTok channel was launched in March of last year, providing another platform for students to share content and stay relevant.
Collinsville Panther Press was established in 2022 at the request of students who wanted a different experience and artist outlet. Former English Language Arts teacher, Pamela Gifford, created this wonderful opportunity with the blessing of Principal, Bradley Crawford. In the two years since Panther Press was founded,, students have learned about different elements of journalism which has been very beneficial to the newest Panther Press sponsor, Brook Sullivan. Panther Press members write articles that are posted on www.collinsvillepantherpress.com pertaining to different events around the school. Panther Press members research certain events and conduct extensive interviews to find out more information about events going on campus wide to post to the website and keep the community informed. The Panther Press members learn how to write engaging pieces, incorporate interviews into their writing, and even cite the sources that might be used in an article. Each member has different skills that are required to help the Panther Press operate smoothly such as editor, photo editor, social media manager, business manager, and reporter.
To ensure that our school and community remain informed and connected with the latest news and updates, CPN and Panther Press will continue to collaborate with one another for years to come.
