This month's staff member of the month is Tanya Ford, EL teacher and volleyball coach.
Staff Reporter Liz Guzman sat down with Mrs. Ford to learn more about her.
How long have you been teaching and have you taught anywhere else besides Collinsville?
Mrs. Ford: I’ve started teaching since 2001, and I’ve only been teaching here at Collinsville.
What is the hardest part about teaching?
Mrs. Ford: I’m not sure, most of everything is not hard after you’ve done it for many years. But I would say in the beginning a lot of paper that we had to learn as a teacher and having to document the students.
What is your favorite part about teaching?
Mrs. Ford: Being with the kids and watching them light up when they figure out something on their own, or how they give me notes about telling me how something I did really meant a lot to them.
What made you want to pursue your career?
Mrs. Ford: I wanted to be involved with kids and sports at the same time, so I figured in the classroom I get to help them in different areas to get them ready for high school and things like that, and it also got me to where I can help kids with sports as well.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Mrs. Ford: When you see kids that you had in class and throughout the years you see that kid get better and better, and we’ve all worked together to get that kid to where they are.
Have you ever considered pursuing a different career?
Mrs. Ford: Not since I’ve started, no.
What are some things you like to do in your spare time?
Mrs. Ford: I like to go camping, play ball with my kids, and now going to the
colleges my kids go to and getting involved with the activities they’re doing.
What are some things that you like to eat?
Mrs. Ford: Pizza would rank pretty high up there especially if it’s Pizza Hut, and
I like anything from Olive Garden.
What is something other faculty members might be surprised to know about you?
Mrs. Ford: When I was 18 my dad was the fire chief and both my brothers were in the fire department, so I was the first female firefighter in Collinsville. I’m pretty sure not many people know that.
Do you have any favorite movies or TV shows you might like right now ?
Mrs. Ford: I like watching Grey's Anatomy and Friends. Those two are pretty much what I watch all the time.
