This year,
Mrs. Garrett’s Kindergarten class painted a Christmas Tree to celebrate the upcoming holiday season. Felicity, a High School student, taking the elective Child Development class, went down to the elementary with Anna Noles, another student in the same class, to help Mrs. Garrett. The day before the painting the students drew their Christmas trees. On Wednesday, December 18, the kids painted with watercolor paint. Felicity and Anna kept an eye on how the kids were doing as was Mrs. Garrett. Felicity’s favorite part of the activity was hanging around with Jackson. Mrs. Garrett’s favorite part of the Christmas activity was seeing how creative her students were, and how unique the painting and the drawings were from the other students. The high school students gave tips to the younger students about how to use the watercolor paints properly. Anna Noles mentioned that it was a great learning experience for her. She wants to be a daycare owner and a kindergarten teacher. This experience taught her that little kids thrive when they have things repeated to them and that it takes a lot of patience. Mrs. Garrett wanted to let her students do Christmas tree ornaments, however, she thought that this was a better idea. It worked out well as this will serve as an actual gift the students can give to their family. This activity not only demonstrates that each child thinks differently but that they are also unique in their own way.
