Coach CJ was nominated for Staff Member of the Month by the 6th-12th grade students from Collinsville High School. His students are extremely overjoyed that one of their favorite teachers is being recognized for their hard work and dedication. When we announced that he was February teacher of the month the whole class erupted into applause. We interviewed some of his students and they had great things to say about CJ.
“I really enjoy his class and admire his teaching skills. He demonstrates his lessons. For example, when we were learning about light waves, like electromagnetic waves, he used a slinky to represent how each wave had a different frequency,” stated Molly Steele. bBrennan McElory chimed in to add that, “He is a proactive teacher, who is always there to help and support anyone who needs it.”
Coach CJ has been here at Collinsville High School for two years, each day teaching bell to bell. CJ is a very quiet person, but he is a very entertaining teacher. CJ would have worked in a lab if he had not pursued his career to teach at Collinsville. We asked CJ, “What is the most challenging part of your job?” He replied, “Teaching everything I need to in the time allowed.” We further asked CJ what his favorite part of his job is and he replied, “Doing labs and experiments with my classes is my favorite part.” CJ is a huge asset to the athletic department as well as he coaches football, basketball, and even baseball.
Outside of the classroom, he mows lawns in the summer as a side hustle. His favorite foods consist of chicken and pizza. He enjoys golfing and watching baseball. The quote that best describes his outlook on life is a quote by Vince Lombardi; “The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary.”
CJ has high expectations for his students but he models his expectations by demonstrating a strong work ethic and determination for his passions. We are proud to have such an exceptional teacher at Collinsville High School.
