The recent TikTok ban has sparked widespread debate and controversy. As one of the most popular social media platforms, TikTok has amassed millions of users, even those at Collinsville High School. We asked many students and staff members about their thoughts on the ban and how it would affect their everyday lives if the TikTok ban happens again and for good. We first  asked Mallory Smith about her thoughts regarding the ban and learned if the ban ever does take place permanently there would be alternate apps that could be used in place of TikTok. She mentioned that the ban was unnecessary because there are more important things to focus on. She went on to say, “I would spend my time going outside more, and substituting TikTok for Instagram and Rednote.”

Jan Segura also provided very insightful feedback, “TikTok has changed our perspective so much on things whether it is friendships, relationships, or your own emotions. There has been a lot of good from the app as well, but I would like to see what the world would be like without it.” Surprisingly, Jan was one of many students that were not completely in favor of the app staying around, but admitted to enjoying scrolling on TikTok in his leisurely time. Brennan McElroy stated, “TikTok brought many good things and some bad. It is a platform where people of all origins and viewpoints can discuss their opinions. It is also the cause of friendships dissipating because people become addicted to it and distance themselves from others, which usually leads to neglected relationships.” TikTok can be a useful tool when used appropriately, but like everything it definitely has its disadvantages. It is clear that at Collinsville High School our students are equipped with the ability to think critically about issues that affect them directly with a level-head!
