Valentine’s day is celebrated on February 14th. This day is all about spreading love and showing affection to those we cherish. People typically exchange flowers, chocolate, cards and other gifts. Although many people enjoy the day, others believe it is just a commercialized holiday. Valentine's Day is a very busy day at Collinsville High School. FCCLA sold chocolate covered strawberries, FBLA sold Crush's, and The Panther Press sold carnations; all that will be distributed throughout the day tomorrow. While it will be a very busy day, it will be fun. In lieu of the upcoming excitement, we interviewed students at CHS to get their insight on the beloved holiday.

We asked students if they would rather be asked out on Valentine's Day or before the holiday. Everyone we spoke to would rather be asked out before Valentine’s Day so they have time to prepare for the day itself. We also asked students about another great Valentine mystery…Do you prefer receiving chocolate or flowers on Valentine’s Day? Ava Griggs stated,” I like flowers more than chocolates because they are more romantic and they last longer. Valentine’s Day is a good day to be with someone special and give gifts.” We asked Rajuess Rooks which he would rather receive and he said. “Chocolate because I can eat it and I am all about something I can eat. I can’t eat flowers. If I were buying for someone, I would give them flowers because they smell good and girls like flowers. This Friday will just be a regular Friday because I don’t have a real connection with any particular girl right now.”

We talked to the Senior class about their thoughts on Valentine’s Day and Bryson Cooper informed us, “Cupid doesn’t actually shoot an arrow and make people fall in love. It is love at first sight.” Jacqueline De La Cruz argued, “Love is having a genuine connection with someone special.” Although Rajuess is currently single he feels that to be in a relationship one must make sure to treat their girl right because at the end of the day it's all about her. Jaymison Tidewell also advised, “You can’t let outside problems inside, because it will just ruin it all.” Many of the guys in the Senior class feel that it is important not to let friends have too much input in a relationship. Sofia Bustos agrees that if your in a relationship you should leave other people's input out, such as friends and family, but she admitted she has been guilty of allowing her friends opinions influence her relationships before. Cristal Barrientos interjected that while she understands what they are saying, having a friend's input gives an outside perspective that is sometimes needed.

Raymundo Soto simply stated, “Valentine’s Day should not even be celebrated. It is just another day.” Whether or not you choose to celebrate Valentine’s the Panther Press hopes everyone enjoys their day!
